jed edt keypad / gnome-terminal / konsole

Hi

Does anyone know how to get the keypad working with jed edt emulation 
mode using either one of recent konsole or gnome-terminal 2.x terminals?

I have it working with gnome-terminal 1.x and xterm after xmodmapping 
some keys like:

xmodmap -e "keycode 79 = KP_7"

etc to make the keypad 7 send KP_7.

and this works fine, but it doesnt work for gnome-terminal 2.x or konsole.

Any ideas?
